Volunteer Tasks by Need & Season
Volunteering with us is also a chance to learn. Our Team Leaders will train you to identify beneficial plants vs. weeds and invasive species, and share the thinking behind park garden design, hardscaping, and plant choices
1. Basics — Plant, Water & Weed
Give some love to perennial beds throughout the city so they stay healthy and vibrant all summer.
2. Park Clean-Ups
Help with regular litter removal to keep our parks welcoming and safe.
3. New Tree Canopy Care
Plant, water, mulch, and prune. Protect and care for newly planted trees to set them up for long, healthy lives.
4. Buffer Garden Care
Water and weed Aspetuck Land Trust's "Buffers for Bridgeport" native perennial gardens. Located in coastal areas with low tree canopy, these gardens slow and filter stormwater before it flows into Long Island Sound.
5. Miyawaki Forest Care
Aspetuck Land Trust's eight Miyawaki microforests are designed to become self-sufficient, but they need some care in their early years.
6. BEEport - Weed & Water
Water and weed new and existing native pollinator gardens around town, including at Bridgeport day care centers, senior centers, Beardsley Park, and Skateport.
7. Invasive Removal
Remove invasive plants, trees, and vines from woodland areas so they don't crowd out the beneficial native plants that support wildlife.
8. Streetside Bioswale Cleanout
Clear litter that washes into streetside bioswales during heavy rain. These bioswales filter pollutants from stormwater and reduce street flooding.
